What A Year…

What unprecedented sh*t happened today?

New Year’s, this year in particular I found the captions on pictures to be more cliche and annoying than any year prior.

“This was a rough year for all of us.”

“2020 was a crazy year…”

If you used the word unprecedented in your Instagram or Facebook caption to personally describe 2020 as if you were a government official then you get extra points for being corny.

Did anyone forget that this wasn’t the first year some individuals or families faced unemployment or economic hardship? Did it just count because now a larger pool of people can relate? If so, why is that?

Does it really take a whole village to burn down for help to come? Why not put the fire out at the sight of the first ember? This could also be said for the spread of Coronavirus, it wasn’t seen as as “our” problem so nothing was done to prevent the spread.

Racial tension or the topic of Black Lives Matter also looked at as not an “us” issue by non-black people but it’s a U.S. issue if even one group of it’s citizens are suffering from oppression and systemic racism.

Hopefully, communities and groups can come together and envision a problem as everyone’s problem even when it has “nothing to do with them”. Even if it targets one, it targets us all.

See the small details, vision the bigger picture. Cheers to the start to 2021.
