Is Anyone Else Board?

Ok… yes I meant board.

I am excited to announce I am the newest Associate board member of Literacy Chicago, an organization that was created to address the literacy needs of adults in Chicago through classes that teach basic literacy skills, English as a second language, GED preparation and much more.

It feels good to be a part of something that has nothing to do with me, and nothing to do with work. Using my PR skills, love for reading, and writing to benefit others feels amazing. Also not to mention, joining this organization, meeting new people, and working on new projects is much more exciting than my typical routine that I have began to know much better than even I would like.

You know the one that includes waking up, brushing your teeth, washing your face, throwing on an outfit that could be used to take out the garbage, and then logging in to your work laptop to do the same things I’ve been doing Monday-Friday for what now feels like an eternity.

That routine now has some extra spice, that would have never occurred if I chose not to put myself out there. Choosing to promote my book, making new connections, and not being afraid to discuss my talents opened a door that I would have never imagined (or planned for, which is a huge deal for a girl who is obsessed with planners, lists, and goals). I am allowing more flow into my life which used to be strictly planned, I promise to discuss that in another post!

2020 has been a year of loss, confusion, and a dash of boredom. So when I got the opportunity to do something I love doing, which is combining my passion while also helping others; I felt honored and excited.

I went from bored to the board, and you can always make little changes to change your position too! It may come as a shocker but the change you are hoping for or even developing a new talent or skill is all hidden in your daily routine.
