Shifting Dreams
I was the first one to arrive, I typically hate when that happens. My anxiety attempts to trick me, and convince me that no one is going to show up.
As I sat in the cushy, slightly worn in chestnut arm chairs, my eyes skimmed the dining room. Mostly White faces, mouths running, grinning, probably not worrying about the check. I’m not either, the company is paying.
My foot mildly tapping against the floor.
Up, down, up, down.
The hostess looks like she’s pretending to be busy so she doesn’t have to mistakenly make eye contact.
I guess I was nervous due to the fact I’ve never met any of my coworkers in person. Remote work can do that to you. I was the most nervous about what we would talk about, as my eyes continued to skim the room my mind began to go over talking points. First one that came to my mind was “What are your plans for the weekend?”
2 pineapple yuzu lemonades
Cavatelli bolognese
Brussel sprouts and fries as an appetizer
The Account Director looked at me in the eyes as she was studying me. I realized I was at a table that I would’ve yearned to be attending in the past. My dream has now shifted.

P.S. I said all of this to remind you that dreams have a tendency to grow past their original inception. Make sure you’re learning and growing with them.
